EK's Storybook Favorites

Image Caption: When I think of Storybooks, I think of castles and royalty. Through reading all the different Storybooks, it was fun creating different images in my head of what each Storybook was depicting.

Modern Myths: Norman Mythology

In this adaptation of the Trojan War, the author changes all of the characters to represent popular figures at the University of Oklahoma, including football players, coaches, and cheerleaders. The author also included characters from the University of Texas to represent the enemy, as the Trojan War itself is changed to take place at the Red River Showdown. The introduction makes all of these changes very clear and sets up a simple understanding of the plot of the story. All of these edits to the original mythology of the Trojan War help make the story more personal and aid in creating vivid imagery of the context of the story. The blog itself was set up very simply, which helped the overall comprehension of the story adaptation.

Tales on a Train: Alexa, How do I Get to Canterbury?

The author of this Storybook reconfigured Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" and put a more modern twist on it. The three stories shared are from an older woman, a young student, and a troubled actress. The different personalities of each character provide a necessary understanding of their background that add to the stories each tell. Along with this, the entire Storybook is written in verse, which matches Chaucer's writing style. In each Author's Note, there were multiple sources provided to gain better understanding of the twists made from the original story. Overall, I think the layout and stories told in this author's Storybook was very methodical and well done.

Fairy Tale News: Real Housewives of Happily Ever After

This Storybook is a very clever play on the classic story of Snow White. I'm obsessed with the Real Housewives franchise, so I loved reading this version. The introduction did a great job setting the scene for this adaptation of the story. Along with this, the dialogue within the story does very well explaining the plot while staying true to the dramatics of Real Housewives. All in all this was a fun read and gave a fun twist to the age-old princess story by Brothers Grimm.
